Philip Seymour Hoffman was a critically acclaimed actor known for his leading roles in films like Boogie Nights, among many others. Unfortunately, Hoffman also struggled with substance abuse, which he had openly discussed in the past. [v]
He had checked himself into rehab at least twice during his career, and in 2011, he was interviewed by The Guardian, during which he acknowledged that his addiction was a part of who he was. “Just because all that time’s passed doesn’t mean my addiction was a phase. That’s who I am,” he said. Hoffman had been sober for several years until his tragic death in 2014 due to acute mixed drug intoxication. [v]

On February 2, 2014, the body of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was discovered in the bathroom of his Manhattan apartment. An autopsy conducted by the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Hoffman’s cause of death was an accidental overdose of heroin, cocaine, benzodiazepines, and amphetamine. [vi]
