According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, Aliso Viejo witnessed 34 DUI arrests in 2020. Remarkably, no victims were killed or injured in any of the city’s alcohol-involved crashes.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department recently announced that a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint is scheduled for Friday, November 10th, within Aliso Viejo, from 6 pm to 2 am. The exact location of the checkpoint remains undisclosed.
The OCSD determines the checkpoint location based on collision statistics and the frequency of DUI arrests in the surrounding area. During the checkpoint, the deputies will be on the lookout for any signs of alcohol and drug impairment. They will also verify the proper licensing of drivers.

Tips from OCSD for a safe evening
According to the OCSD, a DUI arrest can cost nearly $13,500, in addition to potential jail time. Therefore, the department urges the public to get home safely and avoid the consequences of driving under the influence. Remember, “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze!” OCSD suggests the following tips for a DUI-free night:
When going out, if you plan to drink, have a designated driver or use a safe ride option.
If you see someone who has had too much to drink, take their keys and help them find another way home.
Any time you witness a drunk driver on the road, call 911.
While hosting a party with alcohol, offer non-alcoholic drinks and make sure guests have a safe way home. Driving sober saves lives.
